For community groups
Websites for community groups
For village halls, food banks, residents' groups, sports clubs, youth clubs and allotment societies. Describe your group and get a finished website in about a minute, then keep it up to date by asking, or by hand.
What's included
What a community group's website needs
-
When and where
Opening hours, meeting times and events, with your address and contact details where people can find them.
-
Updates that show you're active
Post dated news and updates so visitors can see the group is still going, and the year in the footer is always this one.
-
Hire information and documents
Rates, facilities and terms for your hall or space, with PDFs such as hire agreements and safety certificates.
-
Volunteers welcome
Set out how to get involved step by step, and invite committee members and volunteers to help keep the site up to date.
-
Easy to hand over
The site belongs to your group, not to one person's account. When a committee member moves on, the next one picks it up.
-
Nothing to patch
No plugins to update and no hosting to manage. Every change is kept as a version you can restore.
Not a registered charity?
That's fine
Plenty of groups are too small to register, or run as an unincorporated association. Choose that as your legal form and the site won't ask you for a number you don't have.
If you do register later, as a charity, a CIO or a CIC, add the details and the footer statement updates for you to check.
Questions
Questions community groups ask
We already have a Facebook page. Why have a website?
Not everyone uses Facebook, and a website turns up when people search for your group by name. It's also where funders, councils and new volunteers tend to look first.
Can people book our hall online?
Not through the site itself. Link to the booking system you already use, such as Hallmaster, or ask people to get in touch by email or phone.
Who can edit the site?
Owners invite editors from the Team page. Anyone you invite can make changes, and an activity log shows who published what, and when.
Can we use our own web address?
Yes. Every site gets an address on digital-society.uk straight away, and you can connect a domain you already own.
What does it cost?
We're open by invitation while we work closely with a small group of organisations. When we open up, there will be a free plan and paid plans for those who need more.
Digital Society is also for charities and arts organisations.
Ready when you are
We're opening up to a few organisations at a time. Request an invite, or sign in if you've had one.
